Historic Start to Makhana Export: First Container Flagged Off from Purnea to Dubai
Patna . JP News. The first export consignment of makhana (fox nuts) was sent from Purnea to Dubai on January 21, marking a significant milestone for Bihar’s agricultural export sector. The container was officially flagged off by the Agriculture Department, symbolising the state’s growing presence in the international agri-market.
Officials of the Agriculture Department described the export as just the beginning, stating that systematic efforts are underway to expand makhana exports in the coming months. They expressed confidence that this initiative will help farmers secure better prices and enhance the global recognition of Bihar’s makhana.
Bihar Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit played a crucial role in making this export possible. Under his leadership, effective coordination among various departments ensured the successful execution of the initiative.

Makhana, widely recognised as a superfood in global markets, is expected to gain greater international demand through access to destinations like Dubai. The move is seen as a major step towards strengthening farmers’ incomes and positioning Bihar as a key player in agricultural exports.
