Nature changes in a million years ,but what difference does a day make .” Aravallis at a crossroad”.
Patna. JP News ( By Anuradha). We know that climate change is the most heated topic nowadays because of the increasing pollution and ignorance of human beings. The earth is slowly becoming vulnerable to disruptions and land collapses due to excessive mining and land degradation .
Talking about a recent controversy about the Aravalli range ,we can conspicuously see that one of the World’s oldest mountain systems, is facing a modern crisis. In late 2025, a new regulatory definition was adopted by the supreme court of India . It classifies ” Aravalli Hills” ,only as landforms rising 100m or higher above local ground ,while the government argues this brings administrative clarity and “sustainable mining ” frameworks, environmentalists are sounding the alarm. They warn that this 100m rule could strip legal protection from nearly 90% of the range ,potentially opening vast areas to mining , construction and urban sprawl.
Considering that Aravallis are not just rocks ,they are a life -support system for north India. Disruption of this could lead to accelerated desertification, groundwater crisis because the rocky terrain is a massive ” recharge zone “, without it , the water tables in Delhi -NCR , Haryana ,and Rajasthan could collapse entirely. The air quality and heat will also worsen because the hills act as a ” pollution sink ” , and local climate regulator.
While regulation is better than chaos ,redefining a mountain range based on a height threshold is ecologically flawed. We as citizens living in one of the biggest democratic country ,it is our duty to keep making consistent actions to create a ” green wall” of resistance. We can participate in local afforestation drives. Organisations like the save Aravalli Trust regularly host plantation events . We can also spread digital awareness by using hashtags like #SaveAravalli to educate others.
We need to understand that nature has given us a lot which we might not be able to return but we can definitely keep it sustained by maintaining its beauty. As it is said that ,nature takes a million years to change ,but what difference can a day make if we choose to make a small change each day.
